Operating Environment

For Financial Institutions, maintaining a secure environment has both regulatory and operational considerations.  Many Financial Institutions have both Commercial as well as Retail facilities and operations.  Security encompasses a broad range of operations from commercial building security to Bank/Vault to ATM to transport.  Financial Institutions typically have Data Center security requirements and have on and offshore operations.  The protection and safety of personnel is also an important factor – particularly in Retail Banking.  Financial Institutions tend to have many personnel (employees, contractors), high turn-over rates, and are geographically diverse.

Another consideration for the Financial Industry has to do with the physical real estate / property management.  Financial Institutions both own a lot of real estate where they either wholly occupy space, serve as a Landlord, or a hybrid of occupancy.  At the same time, it is common for Financial Institutions to be Tenants of other spaces.  This is extremely prevalent in retail banking – but also happens on the commercial side.  This presents challenges in the areas of managing Tenant Companies and their employees, as well as on the base building access side.

Industry Use Cases

  • Identify and manage the physical spaces, space attributes, occupancy levels, etc.
  • Identity management for Employees and long-term contractors, to include:

    • Offboarding and Urgent Terminations
    • Tracking and managing required (compliance based) leaves of absence
  • Ability to manage tenant companies, contracts, privileges, insurances and accesses required per tenant
  • Easy identification and management of security roles across the organization
  • Provide badging / credential management for the tenants that issues the right card(s) for the spaces they will be accessing and/or enrolls their credentials
  • Control access to each area, including common spaces for ingress, egress
  • Permit for requesting access above what is provisioned by virtue of work location
  • Ability to gain access to base buildings
  • Provide a robust visitor management process, particularly for high-throughput locations
  • Support for Access Audits for Personnel (i.e., non-employees) and for Restricted Area Access
  • Support sound industrial security practices – such as management of a watchlist per location and per tenant
  • Provide personnel and physical security controls for loading and distribution docs
  • In some cases, manage parking permits and/or visitor parking
  • Manage alarms coming from a variety of sources (such as video, intrusion detection sensors, access control alarms) and to acknowledge, assess, and resolve these alarms pursuant to airport policy
  • Ability to correlate and quickly identify potentially malevolent behavior
